Horror genre is currently in vogue

Over the weekend, a number of media sources claimed that the upcoming Suriya and Venkat Prabhu movie is tentatively titled "Poochandi". The movie is expected to be a horror comedy genre, un-chartered territory for both Suriya and Venkat Prabhu.

Recent Success of Horror Movies

Many of the leading Tamil heroes and directors in the past have all shied away from horror movies due to limited size of this market and box-office concerns associated with censor certifications. It is interesting to note that leading actors such as Suriya are now willing to pursue this genre. A leading TN distributor has attributed the emergence of this trend to recent success of Yaamiruka Bayamey, Pizza, Muni etc. which have all given sufficient confidence to producers, distributors and actors to venture into big budget horror movies. 

Will Tamil fans get over-dosage of horror?

Tamil movie-makers are now completely going bonkers over horror and paranormal themes as one could tell from long line up of movies such as Mysskin/Bala's Pisasu, Raghava Lawrence's Muni 3, Sundar C's Aranmanai , Suriya's tentatively titled Poochandi and a countless other smaller budget movies in the pipeline. We will have to wait and see if will this be a fad or whether horror movies will become a staple diet for Tamil fans.
