In a significant post-election development, Superstar Rajinikanth has paid a personal visit to DMK chief and former Chief Minister MK Stalin at his residence. A photo of the two seated across from each other has been widely circulated on social media.
The visit comes in the wake of a dramatic electoral outcome — Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam swept to power winning 108 seats, while the incumbent DMK managed only 59. MK Stalin himself suffered a personal defeat in his constituency, losing to TVK candidate VS Babu by approximately 8,700 votes. With DMK and its allies securing the second majority, the party is set to take on the role of opposition — with Udhayanidhi Stalin, current MLA for Chepauk, likely to lead as opposition leader given his father's electoral loss.
Rajinikanth's visit carries added weight given his long-standing association with the DMK. He had supported the party during the 1995 and 1998 elections, and despite repeated speculation about his own political entry — most recently in 2017 before backing out in 2021 due to health reasons — he has remained a significant political voice in Tamil Nadu. He had also congratulated Vijay on his victory via X following the results.
