The much-awaited sequel to Kaithi (2019), one of the cornerstone films of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), has been facing delays, and speculation around the reasons is growing. Initially, Dream Warrior Pictures, the banner behind the first Kaithi, was initially onboard as the solo producer to back Kaithi 2.

But with director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s salary having crossed Rs. 50 Cr+ due to Coolie, KVN Productions additionally stepped in, indicating that cost escalations did become a concern. After the mixed weekday performance of Rajinikanth’s Coolie, which Lokesh directed, there are fresh rumors of budget constraints once again affecting the progress of Kaithi 2.

Kaithi 2 producers are reportedly re-evaluating budget before committing to such a high-cost project. Lokesh Kanagaraj meanwhile seems to be shifting his focus towards other projects like the RKFI produced Rajinikanth-Kamal Haasan film. As of now, Kaithi 2 starring actor Karthi in the lead may not go on floors until the production budget is sorted.
