Anti-mimesis is a philosophical position, which is best described by its most notable proponent Oscar Wilde as 'Life imitates art far more than art imitates life'. In a classic example of anti-mimesis, the impact of Tamil actor Kamal Haasan's recent release Indian 2, is currently echoing the halls of the collector office in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu.
Those famliar with the Shankar directed Indian franchise of movies, would know that Kamal Haasan plays an anti-corruption vigilante named Senapathy. Kamal's character, an ageing former freedom fighter, aims to uproot corruption at its core in India. Senapathy particularly targets government offices and officials, who he feels take advantage of the underprivileged, and the common public on a day to day basis.
Post the release of Indian 2, in which Kamal Haasan has returned to his vigilante Senapathy ways, an unidentified man in Villupuram, has imitated Kamal Haasan's character. Copying the Indian 2 hand-writing and signature, this unknown man has left a note on the door of the men's washroom in Villupuram collector office. The hand-written note reads,
"Fulfill the needs of the poor, the underprivileged and the common people who walk into the office. Get the petitions from the poor and underprivileged people and help them. Do your duties without taking bribes - Indian 2"
The Villupuram district Collector office headed by Dr. C. Palani IAS, is currently investigating the matter and is on the lookout to identify the person behind the note. Indian 2, produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies is currently on day 7 of its theatrical run.
