Recently it was widely buzzed that the top 3 frontrunners to direct Thalapathy 69, actor Vijay's last film before his entry into politics, are RJ Balaji, H Vinoth and director Karthik Subbaraj. Latest we hear, RJ Balaji is no longer a contender to direct Thalapathy 69. 

Director H. Vinoth who had narrated a political script to Vijay during Mersal (2017) shooting, was supposed to make that story with Kamal Haasan as KH 233 (working title). KH 233 is not happening anymore and H Vinoth was said to have narrated the same for Thalapathy 69. 

A heist thriller script from director H. Vinoth is also said to be in the running for Thalapathy 69. And is more likely to make it as Thalapathy 69, since the political story needs a no-objection go ahead from Kamal Haasan's production banner Raaj Kamal Films International.

Thalapathy 69 is expected to be produced by DVV Entertainment, the Tollywood production house that backed the world famous Telugu movie RRR (2022), directed by SS Rajamouli.
