Japan Preview: 5 Reasons to watch Karthi, Raju Murugan's heist action comedy

PUBLISHED DATE | 09/Nov/2023

Karthi's 25th film Japan comes on the heels of a hat-trick success from the star-actor (Ponniyin Selvan: I, Sardar, Ponniyin Selvan: II), and will hit theater screens tomorrow i.e. November 10, 2023 [Friday]. Here are 5 reasons to watch the heist action comedy which is one of the Tamil movie releases this Diwali, 2023:

  • Premise: The plot of Japan revolves around a heist mastermind who steals Rs. 200 Cr. worth jewellery. A thrilling cat-and-mouse game ensues between this grey-shaded lead and the good men i.e. the police. This very outline sounds interesting and the promotional videos so far promise one entertaining ride.
  • Raju Murugan: Director of critically acclaimed films like Cuckoo (2014), Joker (2016) and Gypsy (2020) seems to have tried his commercial hand for the first time with Japan. Would be interesting to see how much the horizons have been broadened.

  • Karthi: After three back-to-back hits, Karthi has proven his mettle with script-selections. Japan is expected to be no different.
  • Technicals: From what one sees in the teasers, trailers and BTS making videos, team Japan has spared no expense in giving audience a good production value. This if not anything is a major score for theater goers.
  • Holiday Fest: Diwali is one of the biggest holiday seasons in India, and family audience gravitate more towards an outing with commercial aspects to it. Japan a multi-starrer with names like Anu Emmanuel, Jithan Ramesh, KS Ravikumar, Telugu actor Sunil, Vijay Milton, Vagai Chandrasekhar, Bigg Boss Tamil 7 fame Bava Chelladurai, and music by GV Prakash seems to tick all the boxes a festival theater audience would be looking for in a Tamil movie.
