The Kerala Story based on forced/manipulated religious conversions is an upcoming Hindi movie which is all set to release in theaters on May 5, 2023. The film is based on real life incidents where ISIS-terrorists in the past have been successful in recruiting Hindu and Christian Malayali males, with their wives/family having no knowledge about what or who ISIS is.
However given the anti-muslim sentiment that has forever existed in the Hindi-speaking states of India, and has risen dramatically under the BJP-regime, The Kerala Story is being viewed as another exaggerated tool of Muslim-hate.
This view isn't far-fetched either, given Sudipto Sen, director of The Kerala Story was the only IFFI jury member to support The Kashmir Files, (another controversially Hindus Vs Muslims movie based on real-life incidents) when it was called 'a vulgar propaganda film' by fellow jury member Nadav Lapid. [The incident brought a significant amount of international attention on the growing anti-Muslim hate in India].
The Kerala story has also left many in India fuming, especially the state leaders of Kerala and national political leaders who are from Kerala. Amidst this controversy, a video of a traditional Hindu marriage taking place inside a Kerala mosque started circulating on the internet. The video explains that a Hindu mother with no means of marrying off her daughter sought the help of a mosque, and the mosque more than generously aided in making the wedding happen. This video was widely tagged the 'other Kerala story, owing to the ongoing controversy.
