Former Miss Universe and actress-producer-business entrepreneur Sushmita Sen shocked the nation this weekend when she revealed that she suffered a massive heart attack recently, with over 95% blockage in her artery. On March 3, 2023, Sen took to her Instagram page to write, "I suffered a heart attack a couple of days back…Angioplasty done…stent in place…and most importantly, my cardiologist reconfirmed ‘I do have a big heart’..This post is just to keep you (my well wishers & loved ones) informed of the good news …that all is well & I am ready for some life again!!!"

On March 4, 2023, Sen uploaded an emotional 15-minute video to her social media page, where she detailed her health status. Susmita Sen was admitted at the Nanavati hospital in Mumbai where she underwent the heart surgery, and the actress appreciated her doctors and hospital for keeping the news of her heart attack and subsequent treatment 'very hushed and private'.

The 47-year-old actress, who is a documented fitness freak also added, "I know a lot of you will stop going to the gym and say no, 'see going to the gym didn't help her'. Not good. But it did help me. I survived a very, very big heart attack. It was massive with 95 percent blockage in the main artery. It did because I have kept an active lifestyle," 

Besides her doctors, Sushmita thanked the director of her ongoing OTT series Aarya which is currently in Season 3 of shooting. Implying that her health constraint may have happened during the filming of the Disney Plus Hotstar show, Sen said, "Mr and Mrs (Ram) Madhvani, I cannot thank you guys enough for being so (long pause), couldn't have been in a better environment and place and around better people, if it had to do with my health and my heart. So thank you (blows kiss)" 

The actress further said, "I can't wait to get back on Aarya's set, because I am going to give you a Season 3 like never before. Everyone's going to be sitting there with their hearts in their mouth, I'm sure of that. Because they are going to be like 'God don't do that'..but you know what? I think when you get a new lease to life and you respect it, ofcourse you are careful. But that is when you learn to exercise and strengthen your will even more so. so yeah you better believe it, the best is yet to come.."
