Jigarthanda released to wide critical acclaim in 2014 and has since been remade in Hindi as Bachchan Pandey (2022), in Telugu as Gaddalakonda Ganesh (2019) and in Kannada (2016) under the same title. The movie is inspired from the 2006 South Korean film A Dirty Carnival, which also follows a filmmaker as they decide to make a gangster film by closely following a real gangster.
