The vote counting for the recently concluded Tamil Nadu urban civic polls started from 8 AM this morning and so far independent candidates representing Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (VMI) have won in a ward of Namakkal and Karaikudi each. The Tamil Nadu local body elections were held after 10 years on Saturday for 12,500 wards across 21 corporations, 138 municipalities and 489 town Panchayats.

While the voter turnout was recorded at 60.7% on February 19, the State Election Commission ordered a re-polling due to irregularities in seven polling booths across Chennai, Madurai, Ariyalur and Tiruvannamalai districts. Currently the polling results are being updated on the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission (TNSEC) website with the ruling DMK showing a lead in most areas.
