Director SP Jananathan Critically ill! Under Ventillator Support!

Tamil film director S.P. Jananathan was found unconscious at his Chennai residence on Thursday and was declared brain dead when rushed to the hospital. Chennai's Apollo Hospital has currently kept him under close observation with ventilator support.

 

Jananathan was working on the edits of Laabham, his unreleased movie with Vijay Sethupathi and Shruthi Haasan when he was last seen conscious. He had headed to his residence for lunch and when he did not return to the editing room, his assistants went to check on him and found him unconscious.

 

S.P. Jananathan's first movie was in 2003 titled Iyarkai, which went on to win the National Film award for best Tamil feature. He was also known for films such as E (Jiiva, Nayanthara), Peranmai (Jayam Ravi, Sai Dhansika) and Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai, a multi-starrer featuring Vijay Sethupathi, Arya, Shyam and Karthiga.

[Update: March 14, 2021] SP Jananathan breathed his last after suffering a cardiac arrest this morning at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai. He was 61.
