Vijay's 2017 movie Mersal is not a film the Tamil audience would forget easily, for it had drawn criticism from a number of sections like the medical fraternity, the animals' protection group, the censor board and even the ruling government of India. Even after release, the movie remained a talking point for the supposed losses it incurred and the salary deficit many technicians who worked on the film complained of. 

Despite the notoriety associated with Mersal and its makers, Vijay fans have always been eager for their Thalapathy actor to reunite with Sri Thenandal Films. And now, confirming the same to a leading Tamil weekly, Murali of TSL has said that once Vijay completes his film with Sun Pictures (Thalapathy 65), he will be reuniting with their company for a film.

While details of the project haven't been confirmed, Murali has said that if Vijay decides he will even end up directing the film himself.
