Short take on Vinci Da - A crisp thriller that warrants attention!

Vinci Da (Bengali)

Genre: [ Crime, Mystery, Thriller]

Bharath Vijayakumar
The opening sequence of Vinci Da makes you sit up right away. You are shown a murder that is supposed to happen in a fit of rage. But what follows flummoxes you. This entire stretch is brilliant. At first you feel like the killer was on the right side and he does it to protect someone but then you sense that he sort of enjoys the moment. Though the film doesn't really live up to this tense stretch of filmmaking throughout its running time,  this is certainly an interesting thriller about a vigilante who wants to punish the criminals that escape law with their influence but this obsession ends up making him more dangerous than those criminals themselves. The central character in Vinci Da isn't this guy but an exceptional and honest make up artiste who inadvertently becomes a partner in crime. The entire narration is through his eyes. This works both for and against the film. While it keeps you guessing, I didn't really find the transitions and tonal shifts seamless. The shifts aren't confusing but they sort of dilute the impact and there is never that surge of tension that you felt at the start of rhe film. The music is jarring at times.
But all said, this Bengali film is certainly something that keeps you engaged and has some interesting performances by the two leads. A crisp  thriller that warrants attention!
