Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus period film, Ponniyin Selvan, is growing bigger by the day even before its filming is underway. The latest addition to the cast is Hindi - Kannada actress Sobhita Dhulipala, who acted in popular films like Goodachari and  Raman Raghav 2.0. The actress will essay the role of a princess, who's well-versed in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi.

Ponniyin Selvan is a magnum opus period drama directed by Mani Ratnam. The first schedule of the film began in December 2019 in Thailand. Jayam Ravi and Karthi were part of the first schedule which lasted for 40 days. The team after canning important scenes has returned to Chennai in mid-January and began their second schedule of shoot in Pondicherry few days back. 

The film boasts a huge star cast that includes Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Amala Paul, Jayaram, Lal, Ashwin Kakamanu, Vikram Prabhu and Jyothika among others. The film is based on the epic novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. Ponniyin Selvan narrates the story of Arulmozhivarman, one of the famous kings of the Chola dynasty during the 10th and 11th centuries. The period drama bankrolled by Lyca Productions is set to be made in two-parts and has music by AR Rahman.
