MC Weekly Music Roundup: Week 19

Weekly Earworm – Week 19 – 19/10/2019

Ramesh S Kannan

Malayalam music steals this week music scene with the sweeping melodies topped up by Ranjith Meleppatt’s Ponveyilin Kasavai.

Disco Raja (Telugu): S Thaman: Nuvvu Naatho Emannavo: Disco Raja's first poster had a retro vibe and the first single also a delightful throwback to Ilayaraja's soundscape. SPB adds his magic to the song and his vocals are splendid as always while Thaman deserves special mention for the 90's synth sounds and sweeping strings sections.

Meeku Maathrame Cheptha (Telugu): Sivakumar: Mooskoni Parigethu: Meeku Maathrame Cheptha makers decision to have Vivek Sagar vibes in the soundtrack works well till now based on the singles released. Mooskoni Parigethu has the wacky sounds with the unconventional tune filled with Rakendu Mouli's amusing lyrics. Sivakumar employed Deepak Sugathan's guitar and Martin Vijay's Trumpet effectively throughout the song.

Puzhikkadakan (Malayalam): Ranjith Meleppatt: Ponveyilin Kasavai: Ranjith conjures up the stunning beautiful composition and the playfulness in the tune brings much delight to the listeners. Vijay Yesudas and Anne Amie elevate the composition with their vocals and the humming along with the Sumesh Parameshwar's guitar work is nicely done. The tune gets much better with the waltzy charanam portions ably supported by the background sounds.

Nalppathiyonnu (Malayalam): Bijibal: Mele Meghakkombil: Bijibal never disappoints when it comes to melodies with the old world charms and with Shreya Goshal behind the mic, the tune hardly goes wrong. This track especially anupallavi evokes memories of another delightful Shreya Goshal songs from M Jayachandran composition, Kannodu Chollanu.

Market Raja MBBS (Tamil): Simon K King: Kanne Karuvizhiye: Nowadays Chitra is relegated to mostly melancholy otherwise for the songs with high emotional values. Kanne Karuvizhiye is a song of this genre but Chitra owns the tune with her magnificent rendition while Simon K King kept the arrangements serene with huge support from Vishnu Vijay's woodwinds.

Ambili (Malayalam): Vishnu Vijay: Aaradhike (Instrumental) and Aaradhike: Aaradhike's vocal track is an affecting composition crooned by Sooraj Santosh and Madhuvanthi Narayan effectually. The serene track starts with the blissful Naveen Kumar's flute and the guitar strums accentuate the enjoyability of the song. The Anupallavi bridge with the hook Ende Nenjaage Neeyalle is the stunning piece where composer beautifully blends Aaradhike and the flute phrase. The instrumental version brings out the emotions of the track in a multifold manner with the way the composer incorporates Naveen Kumar's flute and the main melody by Bhavani Prasad's Mohana Veena.

Pick of the Week: Ponveyilin Kasavai, Aaradhike (Instrumental), Nuvvu Naatho Emmanavo
