At the beginning of this year, we had given a break down of some of the most anticipated movies in Tamil, which haven't released as yet. Added to that list, we now have some good prospects to look forward to in the second half of 2019, which hopefully will revive the year for Kollywood, unlike what was registered in the first-half.
1. Nerkonda Paarvai: A much needed topical subject to be addressed, Ajith's court-room drama, which is the Tamil remake of Pink, garnered positive reactions upon its trailer release. A commercial star with one of the strongest fan-bases in Tamil Nadu taking on a social topic like 'consent', is being seen as a welcome move and has raised interests .
2. Saaho: Despite being a dubbed film, Prabhas' first release post his Baahubali era has considered a lot of commotion with his Tamil audience as well. From the video snippets of the movie, an expectation of a Hollywood-style action entertainer has been set amongst the viewers.
3. Kaappaan: Actor Suriya and director K.V. Anand who have given us content like Ayan and Maattraan are returning once again in what seems to be a spy thriller. Suriya's dual role, the big star team (Mohanlal, Harris Jayaraj, Lyca Productions) and the central theme of their story (involving National Security Guard and a Prime Minister) promises everything that one would expect from a big commercial vehicle. And with the director's reputation, Kappaan is an expected bang for the buck and a much needed-hit in Suriya's recent filmography.
4. Kaithi: Managaram fame Lokesh Kanagaraj's Kaithi raised eyebrows with its first look poster, which was a blood shed transformation of Karthi's image with the jail-cell theme. The teaser has indicated a prison-break drama in the offing and fans who were mighty impressed with the director's dramatic elements in his debut film, are now looking forward to the Karthi starrer.
5. Kadaisi Vivasayi: With a 70 year old farmer in the lead role and Vijay Sethupathi in a supporting role, director Manikandan has already raised curiosity over what the film could offer. The movie is said to speak on the importance of farming and interestingly the Aandavan Kattalai director had tried to cast Rajinikanth (to no avail), just for the impact it could bring to his story.
6. Comali: Not much is known about this film, except that it will be a comedy-drama on the lines of Aamir Khan's PK and that Jayam Ravi will be seen in nine different looks in one of the sequences. Nevertheless, the movie has garnered enough attention and generated interest among the movie-goers.
7. Aadai: Amala Paul and director Rathna Kumar have challenged the stereotypes of heroine-centric films in the South and the teaser andtrailer have garnered enough attention to pull in the audience to theaters on the first day.
8. Kadaram Kondan: From the director of Thoonga Vanam, the movie which is a Tamil adaptation of the French film À bout portant (Point Blank), has set expectations in terms of being a Hollywood-style action thriller. The movie is expected to make an impact, in terms of Tamil cinema and Vikram's films in it.
9. Bigil: Vijay's films are always a thing of celebration in Tamil cinema and so it goes without saying that his next with Atlee and A.R. Rahman is as anticipated as the Diwali festival, during which it is scheduled to release. Vijay dabbing in the sports genre for the first time, his dual roles of father and son and him returning to singing has his fans at peak enthusiasm this time.
10. Asuran: A movie which has Dhanush and master story-teller Vetrimaaran coming together for the fourth time, Asuran has made quite the waves in terms of expectation. Dhanush's dual roles and the biopic-period theme of the film has only added to the curiosity surrounding the film.
