Actress Sai Pallavi who has been always been lauded for her on-screen performances recently spoke about turning down a lucrative fairness cream endorsement in a video interview. When questioned the reason behind the same the Premam actress pointed to how she first-hand witnessed the impact the notion of 'fair-skin' was leaving on people and hence decided to not endorse the same.
The actress said,
"..Pooja (Sai Pallavi's sister) has always had a complex that 'Pallavi (referring to herself) is fairer than me'.. I've noticed her comparing her skin tone to mine in front of the mirror many times..So one day I told her one day to eat fruits and vegetables to attain fairer skin and she actually did.I went into thought that day about the impact (the notion of 'fair skin' has) left on a girl who is 5 years younger than me that she was ready to eat something she doesn't like at all.."
The Premam actress further added, "..The money or whatever i receive from the deal would let me eat 3 chappatis, some rice and roam around in the car because I don't have a bigger need than that..(By turning down the deal) I decided to contribute to the happiness of people I care by pointing that these standards as wrong and letting them be themselves.."
Pallavi who has acted in Tamil films like Maari 2 and NGK also shared that her own insecurities about her baritone voice and acne-prone skin shattered only after she did Premam, where she was required to appear with no grooming or make-up. She concluded,
"..Had i not done Premam even I would have applied a 100 creams to my face..When an audience can accept an actress with a plain face, I thought I have the power to change these notions atleast minimally..So I turned it down"
