It would not be an understatement to say that comedian Vadivelu's screen presence over the years, has contributed a great extent to the existence of the Tamil meme community on social media. So it was a moment of amusing celebration, when an iconic character of the actor's (Neasamani, a contract painter) started trending on twitter today under the hashtag #Pray_For_Neasamani.

 

Social media points to a post originally made on Facebook, which is supposed to have started the conversation of reviving Neasamani, a memorable character Vadivelu played in a 2001 movie called Friends. Neasamani was what one would describe as a clownish version of a dominating boss, who orders his workers around but ends up getting self-damaged.

The conversation here refers to a scene from Friends where Neasamani's nephew Krishnamoorthy (played by Ramesh Kanna), who also works for him leaves his uncle unconscious after accidentally dropping a hammer on Neasamani's head. 

 

And Twitter being that place it is, took this scenario to a whole new level by flooding memes about Neasamni's health and what kind of an impact it has created in the State and country. The hashtag #Pray_For_Nesamani ended up trending worldwide and folks who had no introduction whatsoever to Vadivelu or his characters in Tamil movies ended up getting a taste of it.
