KEDI BILLA KILLADI RANGA - Visitor Review

by Kannan Vijayakumar

Pandiraj is sure a talented filmmaker in Tamil cinema with a clean track record of delivering small-scale realistic films. This time he has decided to give us a full-fledged comedy with his two protégés, Vimal and Sivakarthigeyan, who were introduced in his previous films.

Synopsis

Theni Kesavan (Vimal) and Pattai Murugan (Sivakarthigeyan) are childhood buddies who roam around unemployed, aspiring to become local Councillor with the sole intention of making money. In midst of their aimless lifestyles, enter Pappa (Regina) and Mithra (Bindhu Madhavi) to give a romantic turn to the story. As the film sways through this merry routine, Kesavan and Murugan’s political ambitions gets tested. How they solve their challenges and wed their lovers forms the crux of the story.

Story Screenplay

Pandiraj has kept his promise by delivering a perfect family entertainer for the summer. The strength of the film is its screenplay and dialogues that are coated with sharp sarcasm. Portraying reality has always been Pandiraj’s forte and has done it very well through his characters. The witty one-liners work well and the film also comically highlights the current political trends.

However, the serious shift at the third act is quite abrupt even though the message delivered at the climax is heart warming.  Moreover, the film also meanders around aimlessly at parts but never fails to entertain even at the stagnant patches of the screenplay.

Casting & Performance

Vimal and Sivakarthigeyan’s combination works big time with the two actors competitively rendering out their characters with charm and spirit. Especially Siva’s mimicry skills and comic timing are utilized perfectly. There is no doubt that this film will boost his market value. Suri is almost like another main lead in this film as he compliments their antics with his terrific comic timing.

Regina shines with her relateable character and girl next door looks. Bindhu as mithra also gives a controlled yet a remarkable performance. The cheeky romance with sarcasm in Siva and Regina's romantic track is thoroughly enjoyable. Even though Vimal-Bindhu is a tad too artificial, the uniqueness is praiseworthy.

Other supporting casts such as Delhi Ganesh, Muthurman, Sujatha and Manoj have come up with impressive performance. In overall, Pandiraj has tried to extract the best out his talented casts and succeeded.

Technicality

Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga is packaged brightly by its good technical team. Cinematographer Vijay has shot this film with digital RED camera gives the story a colourful tone to the chirpy nature of the film. Editor, Siva has cut the film with such a good rhythm to aid the comedic scenes. Yuvan’s BGM complements well with the film. ‘Oru Poramboku’ and ‘Konjum Kili’ shines in the album and also have been well shot.  Dance choregrapher, Dinesh, played a pivotal part in executing the songs with such energy.

Bottomline

Despite few glitches, Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga works big time, thanks to the apt casting and Pandiraj’s rib-tickling dialogues interweaved with a heart-warming message. Wholesome family entertainer.
