2012 Top Hero Rankings of Tamil Cinema

2012 Actor Ranking - Top 10 Heroes

Vijay was far ahead of rest of the competition as he clearly emerged the winner in 2012. The second to fifth position is determined based on number of criteria and how much the hero was able to bring his individual contributions apart from what may have been narrated by the director.

1. Vijay (Nanban, Thuppakki)

Vijay is undoubtedly the best hero of 2012. He had shed his mass image and worked with two top directors this year. He was able to utilize his full potential by doing so. In Nanban, he played the slightly nerdy yet cool college guy. In Thuppakki, he played an intense role of an army man. He pulled off both the performances with ease and conviction.

2. Suriya (Maattrraan)

Suriya is always known for his experimental roles, hardwork and his dedication. He did it again this year with his extremely challenging role as conjoined twins in ‘Maattrraan’. During the first half, Suriya acted all the scenes twice. Also, he did difficult dance moves and stunts with a body double tied to his hip.

3. Vijay Sethupathi (Pizza, Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, Sundarapandian)

Vijay Sethupathi was associated with 3 successful movies in 2012. In Pizza, he was able to instill fear in audience and in Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, he played a breezy comic role convincingly.

4. Dhanush (3)

Of late, Dhanush has been getting intense roles to play. It was Mayakkam Enna last year and ‘3’ this year. Even though the film received mixed responses, Dhanush had carried his role extremely well, especially in the last scene.

5. Siddharth (Kaadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi)

Siddharth played the role of a next-door-boy in Kaadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi. Siddharth effectively shouldered the movie from start-to-finish. His charming performance ensured the audience left the theatre with a smile on their faces.

6. Prakash Raj (Dhoni)

Prakash Raj’s role in Dhoni was very convincing as a middle-class widower and father of kid aspiring to become a cricketer. He proved his acting prowess yet again as he gained sympathy votes from viewers.

7. Vikram Prabhu (Kumki)

Vikram Prabhu had a dream debut with Kumki. Hailing from a legendary family, there were huge expectations on him and he was able to impress the critics as well as audience.

8. Vikram (Thaandavam)

Vikram gave a very measured performance in Thaandavam. He played a blind man again who uses echolocation technique to move from one place to another. Vikram did a lot of research as he worked closely with Daniel Kish.

9. Jiiva (Nanban,  Mugamoodi, Neethaane En Ponvasantham)

Jiiva played the first Tamil superhero in Mugamoodi. Though the screenplay came under the scanner, Jiiva’s hard work was there to see on the screen as he displayed martial arts techniques originally practiced by Bruce Lee. Also, Neethaane En Ponvasantham showed Jiiva in an entirely different dimension. Not to forget, his performance in Nanban where he brought his own inimitable style in this faithful remake.

10. Vishnu (Neerparavai)

Neerparavai is the best thing that could have happened for Vishnu. After making a promising debut, he lost his way with some mediocre films. But, he seems to have grabbed his opportunity with both hands and he gave a brilliant performance in Neerparavai.
