Tamil Nadu have been charging GST over and above the original price of the ticket. Also, in a first, Abirami Theatres have announced that they would be dropping the convenience charges on online bookings of movie tickets from Friday. Owner of this multiplex group, Abirami Ramanathan, who is also the President of the Tamil Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) has said that he is trying this on an experimental basis, pointing out that the films that are currently running are very mediocre and such a step is required to pull in the crowd.
