SR Prabhu urges film producers to register release dates
The announcement of a new GST tax to be implemented for all films had put the Tamil film industry in a state of jeopardy. Producers are in a hurry to have their films released as they do not want to face the GST taxation which comes into effect staring July 1, 2017 and also do not want to let go of the state tax exemptions they could avail only till that date. Understanding the chaos that has arise because of the rush and demand, producer S.R. Pabhu who is the treasurer of the Tamil Films Producers Council has urged his fellow colleagues register their release dates in advance.
According to the Kaashmora producer,
"This will help everyone because once we come to know the release date of the big-budget films, the other films can plan their release accordingly. Nowadays, since movie-watching has become a costly affair, people have become very choosy on what films they want to watch in the theatre. If the release schedule is planned and big-budget films are released at right intervals, all the producers will benefit from it. Bollywood has been doing it for some time and we can also make it possible here."
Prabhu also recommends a 3 week gap betweem the release of big and small budget movies for better business at the box-office. Will this help the Tamil films is something we will have to wait and watch.
