The Pongal releases continued to make merry at the box office during the Republic day weekend, as there was no real threat for them. A lesser known film Thottal Thodarum had hit the screens on January 23, but it failed to create any buzz. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend.

1. I

Director Shankar's I was the obvious choice for everyone last weekend. People who missed watching the film during the Pongal weekend, caught up with the film last weekend. Vikram's breathtaking performance has been reaping the rewards it deserves.

2. Darling

GV Prakash's Darling has emerged as the dark horse among Pongal releases. All eyes are on GV Prakash's forthcoming films to know if he can continue his good acting form.

 

3. Aambala

In spite of the mixed reviews, Vishal's Aambala has managed to garner support from the audience, thanks to the huge star cast. 

 

4. Thottal Thodarum

Popular movie critic Cable Sankar's debut venture Thottal Thodarum received negative reviews. It also did not manage to draw the attention of the movie buffs, due to low-key promotions. 

 

Upcoming week's releases

SJ Suryah's Isai will be hitting the screens on January 30, along with many lesser known films.
