Its Entertainment Movie Review - 'NO Entertainment'
Ameet Bhuvan
There are very many signs that warn you about the standards of Entertainment. Akshay Kumar, a dog as the hero and Sajid Farhad, the writers of such gems like Golmaal series and Himmatwala. Yet, there is nothing that can prepare you for the colossal disaster that the film is. There is absolutely nothing entertaining about Entertainment. You should be thanking your stars if you come out sane from the theatres.
Entertainment is a dog who has been willed a really rich man’s entire wealth. This really rich man also happens to have fathered Akshay Kumar illegitimately. So Akshay who has a tough time surviving, heads to Bangkok to reclaim his fortune. There he finds two crooks, Prakash Raj and Sonu Sood also eyeing the same wealth. Akshay loves Tamannah, daughter of Mithun who wouldn’t let the lovers marry cause Akshay is poor. So all reach Bangkok and mayhem ensues. Thing is, the mayhem was intended to be funny. It is not.
One does not expect much from this genre of films like Entertainment. Still one is aghast at the newer lows Hindi cinema seems to be plunging to as this film unfolds. One sad joke after another, we are on a one way ticket to distasteful comedy that just cannot be called entertaining. Dialogues like “jaisi karni waisi Mamta Kulkarni” or “kutte ko maar akshay kumar” are not anyone’s cup of tea for sure.
Then there are the ridiculously bad lyrics of songs that aim to turn you deaf and blind with all the noise and glam bling on screen. Throughout this farce, one feels for the poor dog who is humiliated beyond imagination in the name of making us laugh.
Entertainment has the credit of ruining not one but two nursery rhymes for eternity. “Johnny Johnny” and “How I wonder what you are “ are proof enough to how anything goes in the name of making the next 100 crores these days. In fact sitting through this film made me realize how much we are letting pass as audiences by keeping mum and paying to watch films like these. Scant regard for gays, differently abled, the constant need to make fun of everyone to make yourself look good, the insatiable greed for money and the scant disrespect to women- these are only some of the unacceptable ideas films like Entertainment promulgate. Then again, who cares as long as there is money to be made?
Leaving your brain behind to enjoy this film will not be enough. You would need an abnormally high level of tolerance and patience to sit through this drivel fest.
