Heartin – Crisp and easy outing for an undemanding watch!.

Bharath Vijayakumar

Kishore Kumar’s Heartin has the basic ingredients needed for a love story. It could have been treated either as a serious love drama or a romcom. The latter is what we have now. Love happens and when everything seems fine for the lead couple, something happens and a past love resurfaces. We now have a love triangle and how things pan out is what Heartin is about.

For the most part, Heartin is an easy watch. The first half in Jaipur (and also the second in Ooty) lends itself to some pleasing visuals and we have what we might call an easy-going film. The comedy isn’t great but the film feels light and easy for an undemanding watch. Even the major twists and emotional moments are kept light. This works both for and against the film. If you are looking to pass some time, you wouldn’t mind this treatment of Heartin. But if you would like to be invested with the love story and the complexities involved in the equation, Heartin isn’t the film that you are looking out for.

The performances are what you may call alright. With some refinement in the performances, the comedy could have worked much better. For now, a smile or a chuckle is what the film manages to get out of you. A light weight romcom film is fine but in Heartin both the romance and the comedy feel underutilised. There is a difference between being subtle and to be found wanting. Heartin falls somewhere in between. The film also feels kind of rushed. At just under 2 hours, this again works both for and against the film. We have two love stories packed in this runtime. So, there is no real space to invest with the emotions involved. A major reveal doesn’t feel like one. A major break up doesn’t feel like one, simply because we did not even feel the love in the first place. But ironically, all this helps the film in a different way. As I said, if you are looking for an easy watch, this treatment and the crisp runtime really help. If this was intentional, it is a good idea, but I would have really liked the comedy to have worked better in that case.

Bottomline:

If you don’t mind the occasional amateurishness in the performances, Heartin is a crisp and easy outing for an undemanding watch.

Verdict: 3/5
