Jana Nayagan Release Hinges on CBFC Nod - Minister Rajmohan Gives Official Update

Tamil Nadu's Minister for Film Technology and the Cinematograph Act, Rajmohan, has weighed in on the long-delayed release of Chief Minister Vijay's final film, Jana Nayagan — offering a measured update amid mounting speculation.

Speaking at the launch event of Romeo Pictures' next production, the minister stated that the film's release is entirely contingent on obtaining its censor certification. "The film can be released only after obtaining censor certification. This is not just about Jana Nayagan — we cannot do such things to any film for political reasons or any other reasons. The work for that is currently in progress," Rajmohan said.

Speculation has been running high that the film could release around Vijay's birthday on June 22, fuelled further after the District ticketing app listed Jana Nayagan for a June 19 release and BookMyShow updated the film's release month to June. However, the makers are yet to make any official announcement.

For context, Jana Nayagan was originally scheduled for a January 9 release, but was stalled after the CBFC withheld its censor certificate. Following a legal battle, the makers withdrew the case and have since been awaiting clearance. The situation worsened on April 9, when the entire film was leaked online in HD, causing significant financial damage — not only impacting box office prospects but also reportedly reducing the film's OTT deal value considerably.

Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan also stars Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Prakash Raj, and Narain, among others.
