Vijay - Sangeetha Divorce Hearing Pushed to June 15; Mutual Consent Reports Surface

PUBLISHED DATE | 20/Apr/2026

The Chengalpattu court has adjourned the divorce proceedings between actor-politician Vijay and his wife Sangeetha to June 15, with the postponement coming just days ahead of the Tamil Nadu state assembly elections on April 23.

The timing is significant — Vijay is making his political debut with his newly-formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), making the elections a crucial moment in his public life.

Sangeetha, who has largely stayed away from the spotlight for years, filed for divorce in February this year. Her petition alleged that Vijay had an extramarital affair with an unnamed actress in 2021, and that she faced mental, emotional, and physical neglect, verbal disdain, and restrictions on both her financial freedom and movement. Two rounds of discussions held in November 2025 to find an amicable resolution failed to yield results.

However, reports now suggest that the proceedings may be heading toward a mutual consent divorce. Sources indicate that Vijay has agreed to grant the divorce following discussions between legal representatives on both sides. Sangeetha has reportedly sought a substantial alimony based on assets declared by Vijay ahead of the elections, to secure her future and that of their children — Jason Sanjay and Dhivya Sasha — with certain reports suggesting Vijay has agreed to the amount. An official confirmation is yet to come.
