Vada Chennai 2 Will Arrive With a Bang - Dhanush's Big Promise at Kara Pre-Release Event

PUBLISHED DATE | 20/Apr/2026

Wherever Dhanush goes, Vada Chennai 2 questions follow — and at the pre-release event of Kara, he finally gave fans the answer they have been waiting to hear. Sporting a striking 'funk' hairstyle that drew instant comparisons to his iconic look from Vetri Maaran's 2018 masterpiece, Dhanush addressed the sequel directly. "Vada Chennai 2 will arrive soon. It will come with a bang. To win, first we have to fight. The distance is not as far as you think. It has come closer. Anbuvin Ezhuchi will arrive in a big way," he declared.

The hairstyle itself was a nod to fan wishes, with Dhanush confirming he changed it based on audience demand — a subtle but telling hint at how deeply connected he remains to the Vada Chennai legacy.

Earlier at the Idli Kadai pre-release event, Dhanush had revealed that the sequel would begin filming this year with a 2027 release target. However, an official production start is yet to be announced. Vetri Maaran returns to helm the second installment, with Ishari K Ganesh of Vels Film International backing the project.

For the uninitiated, Vada Chennai was a gritty crime drama set against the backdrop of gang warfare in North Chennai. The film followed carrom board prodigy Anbu (Dhanush), who gets inadvertently drawn into a brutal power struggle between gang members Guna (Samuthirakani) and Senthil (Kishore), who turn against their own leader Rajan (Ameer) — and eventually each other. The film earned both critical acclaim and commercial success, cementing its place as a modern cult classic.

While fans await the sequel, Vetri Maaran is currently occupied with Arasan — a Vada Chennai universe spin-off headlined by Silambarasan, featuring Samuthirakani, Kishore, Andrea Jeremiah, Vijay Sethupathi, Yogalakshmi, and Jibin Gopinath. Notably, Dhanush's character Anbu does not feature in Arasan, keeping the two projects distinct despite sharing the same universe.
