CBFC cancels Jana Nayagan re-certification; Vijay starrer faces fresh setback

PUBLISHED DATE | 17/Mar/2026

The revising committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has reportedly cancelled the re-certification of Vijay’s Jana Nayagan. The committee was scheduled to rewatch the film on March 17.

The film was initially submitted for certification in December 2025, following which the first evaluation committee recommended certain cuts that were implemented. However, a member later raised objections, alleging that the film hurt religious sentiments and that proper permissions were not obtained for the use of armed forces logos.

This led to the film being referred to a revising committee, triggering a prolonged tussle between the makers, KVN Productions, and the CBFC. The production banner had earlier approached the Madras High Court, after which it was ruled that the film must undergo re-certification.

A fresh screening was initially planned earlier this month but got postponed due to a committee member falling ill. The latest development now puts the film’s certification process in further uncertainty.

Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, is said to be Vijay’s final film before entering politics. The film also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Priyamani, Prakash Raj, and Gautham Vasudev Menon, with music by Anirudh Ravichander.
