Venkat Prabhu directed time travel action thriller The Greatest of All Time, aka The GOAT or GOAT, is gearing up for a worldwide theatrical release on September 5, 2024 (Thursday). The movie marks the maiden collaboration of the filmmaker with lead actor Vijay, who plays dual roles of father and son in the movie.
The GOAT is also actor Vijay's penultimate movie, before his full fledged entry into politics in real life. Naturally, expectations about the movie, especially among Vijay's Tamil audience/fan-base is at an all time high. At this time, Venkat Prabhu who is famous for making a time loop movie named Maanaadu (2021) had this to say about The GOAT movie:
"I have genuinely revealed the film's genre in The GOAT trailer. No one has decoded it properly. This movie will be understood and liked by everyone. I haven't confused anyone here. But you won't be able to decipher what will happen next (in the GOAT film)...
The Greatest of All Time will be a very fast paced film. It'll be like a Mankatha (2011) on steroids...Mankatha was a complete boys film where we showed how bad these boys could get and backstab each other. The GOAT however is a world of family man. A major episode that happens in this family guy Gandhi's life is what GOAT movie is about.
You will not feel like 'what is happening here', you'll understand the movie crystal clear."
Mankatha (2011) starring Ajith Kumar was the star actor's 50th film which went on to become a huge success. Venkat Prabhu had teased a connection to Mankatha in The GOAT's trailer, by making Vijay repeat Ajith's dialogue, "Sathiyama inimel kudikavae koodadhu da" (I swear I shouldn't drink at all after this).
