Multiple National award winning Tamil film Soorarai Pottru (2020) is a biographical tale inspired from the life of G. R. Gopinath, founder of Indian low-cost airline Simplifly Deccan aka Air Deccan. This movie which was based on GR Gopinath's memoir Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey (2011), is being remade in Hindi as Sarfira starring Akshay Kumar in the lead.

The Bollywood star on Friday updated that the Sarfira trailer is gearing up for a release on June 18, 2024 [Tuesday]. Sarfira releases in theaters on July 12, 2024. 

Soorarai Pottru had screenplay by Sudha Kongara, Shalini Usha Nair, direction by Sudha Kongara, music by GV Prakash, had Paresh Rawal playing the villain, and was produced by Suriya and Jyotika's production banner 2D Entertainment. This same team has regrouped for Sarfira, which stars Akshay Kumar as Vijay Saxena, Radhika Madan as his spunky wife Priya Saxena, Seema Biswas and actor Suriya in a cameo.

Cape of Good Films and Abundantia Entertainment are the other banners behind Sarfira, which will be presented in theaters by AA Films and Zee Studios [Soorarai Pottru though made for theatrical release, turned out to be the first major Tamil film to release directly on OTT during the pandemic era]. Junglee Music holds the audio rights to Sarfira. Sarfira's OTT rights are with Disney Plus Hotstar, and satellite rights with Star Gold TV channel.
