Flies High!

A scene-to-scene yet a solid remake about a man of conviction who started a low-cost airline in the early 2000s, sure to inspire and create an impact for the first time viewers. An engaging watch for the people who have already seen the original.(more)

Akshay Kumar stars in creaky melodrama that'll remind you of a 60s weepie

The nicest part of the film, like in the original, are the ordinary folk who come out of the first flight, their faces lit-up and beaming. Thats what you take away from this loose adaptation of G R Gopinaths memoir Simply Fly : A Deccan Odyssey, as well as the freeze frames of Gopinath and his fellow pioneers who started out with an impossible dream, and turned it into reality.(more)

Akshay Kumar soars in his 150th film, an inspirational and moving biopic

Sarfira is a tad stretched and long, especially in the second half when the story has already taken off, but takes forever to land. A crisper narrative and some clever cuts at the editing table would have helped. The songs seemed a bit too unnecessary and could have easily been avoided to keep the story more focused and compact. Despite these lows, Sarfira soars high and keeps you invested in the story, and at the end, you are left smiling and feeling proud of Vir's achievements. It's a perfect family watch that gets you emotional, happy and inspires you to dream big. Watch it to celebrate yet another true story, and also to witness Akshay's 150th film as a leading hero. Stay till the end if you don't want to miss Suriya's cameo. (more)

Akshay Kumar's Film Does Not Exactly Soar Above The Clouds

Sarfira will spring no surprises. If you haven't, are an Akshay Kumar fan and do not mind overboiled, excessively stirred drama, it might be worth a trip to a multiplex near you.(more)

Akshay Kumar soars in this inspirational tale of grit and determination

The film is an Akshay Kumar showcase from start to finish. The actor delivers a nuanced performance, effortlessly portraying a range of emotions disappointment, frustration, gratitude, helplessness, and love. He shines in scenes like his heartfelt plea for a loan at the airport and his endearing awkwardness when borrowing money from Rani to see his plans to come to fruition. Radhika Madan is equally impressive as a woman who is neither a quiet supporter nor apologetic about her own ambition. While the lead couple shines, Paresh Rawals character is one-dimensional and creates no real impact. Seema Biswas and Anil Charanjeett lend able support. While the film's narrative could certainly be crisper and the length tighter, ultimately, it lands safely. It turns out to be an inspiring tale elevated by top-notch performances from the lead cast. Buckle up for this flight!(more)

Akshay Kumar is on autopilot in this 'Soorarai Pottru' remake

imilarly, the social texture of the story also gets diluted in the remake. Early in the Tamil version, Marans (Suriya) dance during a funeral procession placed him in a social context. Here it is more like the character living up to the films title. Marans socialist father had more socio-political heft than the emotional swell created by Veers father and mother. In the original, Paresh reflected on his rise from a modest background. It helped in understanding his obnoxious behaviour towards blue-collar workers in his organisation. Here Rawal gets no such elbow room.(more)

Akshay Kumar Presents A Riveting Tale Of Enterprise And Grit

After a long time, we have a biopic that is full of entertaining sequences and not just seriousness. Akshay Kumar has been having a bad patch since 2021s Sooryavanshi (but for his cameo in OMG 2) and this one deserves to end the dull phase.(more)

SARFIRA tells an inspiring story in an engaging manner.

SARFIRA tells an inspiring story in an engaging manner and rests on Akshay Kumar's strong performance. At the box office, its prospects would be greatly limited due to a niche subject and limited buzz. It will, therefore, do ordinary business.(more)

Akshay Does It Again! Yawn.

Sarfira has the depth of a potato chip. Rani is a baker because there are cakes around her. Paresh suffers OCD because he wipes his hands in sanitiser. Instead of the struggle gone in making a low-cost airline work or the partners flanking Veer like props not receiving due importance, Sarfira is interested in pressing our emotional nerves to the point of plugging them out.(more)
