One of the shocking highlights at the 94th edition of the Oscar ceremony i.e. the Oscars 2022 was the unexpected assault of comedian Chris Rock by actor Will Smith. While presenting the award ceremony, Chris Rock took a crack at Jada Pink Smith's shaved head by stating, "Jada I love you, GI Jane 2 can't wait to see it." To the unversed GI Jane is a 1997 movie starring Demi Moore and the actress famously sported her own buzz in the movie.
Jada Pinkett Smith has been seen with a shaved head since July, 2021 and has openly spoken about her insecurities with her tonsured head, which she does because of her struggle with alopecia. -Naturally Jada was seen eye-rolling at Chris' joke while the presenter said, "That (joke) was a nice one okay."

However much to the shock of everyone present and watching the live airing of Oscars, 2022, Jada's husband and actor Will Smith who was only seconds earlier laughing at the joke walked up to Chris on stage and landed a smack on the presenter. While Chris tried to contain his composure and go on with the show, Will got back to his seat and shouted, "Keep my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth!"

Incidentally, Will Smith was awarded the Best Actor for King Richard minutes later and even got emotional about both the win and the physical assault incident. Notably, he did not apologize to Chris Rock for it [Will Smith later took to Instagram to do this]. This got everyone watching the show fuming about Will Smith's win and questioned the Academy about why no action was taken on the actor. The Academy has now responded by stating,
The Academy does not condone violence of any form.

It is worth mentioning here that the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has also issued a statement that reads, "LAPD investigative entities are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards program. The incident involved one individual slapping another. The individual involved has declined to file a police report. If the involved party desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report,"
