Suriya issues a strong statement in support of Jyotika!

A few days ago we had reported how Jyotika's statement of requesting to donate to schools and hospitals just like people did for temples created a ruckus. While the controversy may have actually risen from the actress's confession that she 'couldn't bring herself to visit' the famous Brihadeeshwara temple in Thanjavur (many saw this as an insult to the architectural heritage/ an unnecessary addendum) after witnessing the poor sight of a hospital just opposite the temple, social media being the place it is gave wind to the hate without an objective in sight.

Camp Jyotika too had some strong statements of their own with people like producer S.R. Prabhu and Rajasekar Pandian giving it back to politically aligned celebs like S.Ve. Shekhar and Gayathri Raghuram who had objected to Jyotika's statement on twitter.

Now, Suriya has come in support of his actress-wife and said, “A comment made by my wife Jyothika at an award function long ago has been doing the rounds online and has led to debates as well. Jyothika has put forth the thought that schools and hospitals should be maintained in the same high regard as temples. Some people have been offended by this and equated it to a crime.

Such thoughts have also been espoused by spiritual leaders like Vivekanandha. Serving people is like serving God, and this is a belief that has been held in our society for a long time, even by people like Thirumoolar. But those who don’t follow these writings or learning, won’t understand thisMy family fully stands with her opinion in the speech, which is inspired by the teachings of spiritual leaders. We wish to teach our children that humanity is more important than religion.”

Suriya thanked his supporters and the media in his statement which read, I thank all those unknown people who supported us, while many were working overtime to malign our image and assassinate our characters online. The media has been reporting the news correctly which gives me the confidence that good intentions will lead to good deeds,”
