Bollywood director upset with Super Deluxe not making it to Oscars 2020!

Over the weekend, the Film Federation of India (FFI) announced Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt starrer Gully Boy as India's official entry to the 92nd Academy Awards aka the Oscars, 2020 in the International Feature Film category. While Gully Boy contended with 27 other films from all over the country, a director from Bollywood was upset about a Tamil film not making to the final cut. 

 

Director Sanjay Gupta, who is known for films like Kaabil (2017), Jazbaa (2015) and the Shootout series among others took to his twitter handle to express his disappointment and wrote, "So clearly SUPER DELUXE according to me the finest film of the year is not worthy enough..."

 

It is worth mentioning here that besides Super Deluxe, several films from the South were among the 28 movies in contention including Dhanush, Vetrimaaran's Vada Chennai, Parthiban's Oththa Seruppu, And the Oscar goes to… (Malayalam), Olu (Malayalam), Dear Comrade (Telugu), and Kurukshetra (Kannada). 

 

The screening selection of India's official entry to Oscars, 2020 took place in Kolkata, West Bengal from September 18, 2019 to September 21, 2019. Actor, director Aparna Sen headed the jury committee that included directors Pratim D Gupta and Ashoke Viswanathan, editor Sujay Dutta Ray, scriptwriter Padmanabha Dasgupta and composer Debojyoti Mishra.
