According to the statistics released by Broadcast Audience Reseach Council (BARC) India, Ajith starrer Viswasam recorded the highest TRP ratings by a Tamil film when it premiered on Sun TV on May 1, 2019.
Despite its Amazon Prime premiere, Viswasam which was telecast as a birthday special for the 'Thala' actor recorded 1,81,43,000 impressions, surpassing Pichaikkaran's 17696 impressions which was the highest by a Tamil film until that point.
Interestingly, among the top 5 Tamil films with the highest TRPs, top 3 (excluding Baahubali 2) were aired on channels of the Sun Network. Here is a look at the top 5 premiere TV impressions list:
