Rajinikanth turns 44 this Holi, 2019!

 

It was in 2010 during an event for Tamil Nadu Director’s Association when late veteran director K. Balachander first let out the story of actor Rajinikanth's connection to the Holi festival and on occasion of Holi falling today this year, we decided to take a trip down the memory lane. 

It is no secret that it was director K. Balachnder who gave Rajinikanth (then Sivaji Rao Gaekwad) his first big break in 1975 through Apoorva Ragangal. Since the name Sivaji already belonged to a star actor at that time, they had contemplated using Rajinikanth, Chandrakanth or Srikkanth before Balachander finalized on the first name.   

At the Tamil Nadu Director’s Association event in 2010, Balachander interviewed Rajinikanth and asked,“Do you remember when did I name you Rajinikanth?,” to which the Superstar actor replied,“It was a full-moon day. Holi festival,”. The director also went on to reveal that for many years following 1975 Rajinikanth used to meet his mentor in person or call him if out of town on every Holi day.

2019 marks 44 years since the name 'Rajinikanth' was born and to this day it visibly holds a special place for both the Thalaivar and his fans.
