Director Perarasu who has worked with Vijay in two commercially successful films Thirupachi and Sivakasi has spoken out in favour of the actor in a recent public gathering. The director said that while people were quick to condemn Vijay for posing with a cigarette in Sarkar's first look poster, they have been reluctant in appreciating the actor's generous donations towards the Kerala Flood Relief Funds.

The director also posed Vijay to be an example of the hypocrisy meted, towards people from the film industry. Take a look at his statement here:

"Actor Vijay has (given) 70 lakhs (to the Kerala Flood Relief Fund)..It is not a small feat. We don't know how long it took for him to earn tat 70 lakhs..Today he has donated that 70 lakhs just like that. Many controversies were created in the name of social responsibility and many condemnations were there because he posed with a cigarette in his first look poster (of Sarkar).

Why haven't the people who condemned him for posing with a cigarette, appreciated him for doing this good? Is this not a social responsibility? First learn to appreciate cinema people then condemn them for whatever wrong they do."
