Actor Kamal Haasan is definitely on a roll
In the bygone week, actor Kamal Haasan's name has been flashed in the headlines as many times as the term "Jallikattu". This is not only because of his constant pro-Jallikattu stand or his unwavering support to the student protestors, but also because of his jest-filled one-liners and impactful punch statements. What's interesting is that while he strongly supports the pro-jallikattu stand, his subtlely in his defence for the right stand and his discouragement of the word "ban" is something that doesn't miss the eye either. One look into his statements (collaborated from various occasions) proves what we just described about the acclaimed actor.
- Being a vocator of the Jallikattu need since Virumaandi, the actor was one of the firsts to come out in its support when Jallikattu became the "It" topic. His retort on the PETA ban was, "If the ban on Jallikattu is justified, then there should be a ban on biriyani as well."
- When actress Trisha was trolled brutally by the twitterverse for being a PETA supporter, he was the first one to pin-point its dilutable nature. "My support is always for decency. Let individuals be. Don't weaken our case by slandering. Leave small people alone, fight decision makers."
- He was bold enough to address the "elephant in the room" by pointing out the most obvious yet unspoken truth. "Remember each party has a TV channel in TN to bias news. Glean your wisdom from each other and the web. Keep non-violence intact. You'll win." This was followed by a dig on his own territory. "This movement id of the people. I still feel celebrities should only support and not steal the show."
- When he discouraged a ban on anything "Don't ban anything, be it Viswaroopam or Jallikattu". He even extended this sentiment towards PETA saying that he prefers reguation over ban any day.
- When questioned by a national media TV reporter on the need for Jallikattu to be tied down to Tamil culture and pride, he unabashedly said, "I don't bet on my pride, I am a rationalist...But I have to maintain my equipoise and you cannot take it away. You can never take it away"
- Though he condemned the chaos created amongst the general crowd and the Police department and voiced about the need for the CM to address the crowd, he maintained "They (The Government) did what they could in their position. That cannot be discounted. But as an individual, it is my opinion that he (the Chief Minister) should have addressed the gathering."
- Twitter had officially become a battle ground for Kamal Haasan and Subramaniam Swamy with both mud-slinging each other with words before Haasan concluded his role with this tweet "Decided not 2 answer samis insinuations. Take over T.porikkis u R in g8 company..." The actor's usage of 'T. Porikkis' meaning 'Tamil Porukkis' is referrenced from Swamy's usage of the same term in his tweets.
