Theri Preview - SWOT Analysis

Vijay's Theri, one of the most expected movies this year, will be hitting the screens on April 14 for Tamil New Year's day. Samantha, Amy Jackson, Baby Nainika, Raadhika, Prabhu and Mahendaran play central characters in the film, which is directed by Atlee. Interestingly, the film marks GV Prakash's 50th album as music director.

Strengths:

  • Undoubtedly, the biggest strength of the film is Vijay. The actor has a huge loyal fan base and with vijay doing 3 different roles in the film as Joseph Kuruvilla, Vijay Kumar, Dharmeshwar, it will be a treat for his fans to see him showcasing three different dimensions in a single movie for the first time.
  • Going by the trailer and teaser, Theri promises to be a racy affair the initial buzz has reached sky-high for the film.
  • Although director Atlee has made only one film - Raja Rani before, he strikes the chord with the audience in handling emotions. Similarly, the bonding between Vijay and Baby Nainika seems to be the highlight of this film.
  • Samantha and Amy Jackson can perform well, and we have seen that in Thanga Magan. They could ace in this film as well, if their roles have been written neatly.

Weakness:

  • Amy Jackson's new makeover has got mixed response from the promo videos. We'll have to wait and see if she is able to please the audience with her new look in the film.

Opportunities:

  • A lot is riding on Vijay Theri's. Not just the film's unit, but also the entire Tamil film industry wants Theri to do well at the box office. Click here to read our elaborate article on this.
  • Theri is the only notable movie releasing on April 14 and the multiplexes have given 60-70% of the shows to the film, which means the movie will set incredible box office opening records. The tickets for opening weekend have almost been sold out completely.
  • If Theri becomes a hit, Atlee will catapult to the next big league and he will be considered by the cream of actors and production houses to direct mega-budget movies.

Threat:

  • The running length of the movie is 2 hours and 35 minutes. With most of the recent commercial hits running close to only 2 hours, Theri needs to be spot on to be thoroughly engaging. However, Vijay's longer running movies like Thuppakki and Kaththi have managed to be nail-biting in the past. The running length might just not be a worrying factor if the screenplay is engaging enough.

Final Words

Come April 14, all roads in Tamil Nadu will lead to theaters playing Theri. Will the movie live up to its title? We will come back with the FDFS review.
