After years of speculation about a Hindi remake of A.R. Murugadoss directed blockbuster film Kaththi, there is a fresh set of news that Bollywood's famed director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has acquired the Hindi remake rights of the film. And Akshay Kumar, whose name has been associated with this film on and off, is predicted to be the leading prospect for reprising Vijay's role.
Earlier this year, when Bhansali's Padmaavat was up against Akshay Kumar's Padman at the box-office, Kumar moved his film to a different date just days before their films could clash. This gesture called for a wide media attention and it was then that Akshay had said that SLB and him would be working on a film together soon. It is also worth mentioning here that Akshay Kumar has already worked for SLB Films produced Rowdy Rathore, which again was a remake of a South Indian film (S.S. Rajamouli's Vikramarkudu).
While there are also speculations that the film might be offered to SLB's favourite lead, Ranveer Singh, there has been no official announcements or confirmations on any of this. Also it remains to be seen of the Hindi version of Kaththi will stick to the original concept of farmers' suicide or will be based on water scarcity, as suggest a while ago when Akshay Kumar's name was first associated with the project.
Currently Sanjay Leela Bhansali is said to be working on the scripts of Gangubhai Kothewaali, a gangster drama with a female lead and a project titled Insha Allah, which was last in the news for trying to cast Deepika Padukone and Salmaan Khan together.
