Some high-points and mildly amusing for the most part

With the number of horror comedies these days, the population of those who get shivers with a ghost on screen should definitely be dwindling. Maragadha Naanayam is not another horror comedy. It does employ spirits and ghosts but the intent of the makers is to present a fantasy comedy. Thankfully the film sticks to this and never tries to scare you. (more)

Maragatha Nanayam Movie Review

Maragatha Nanayam does take some time to set up its characters and initially, the changes its tone are jarring, but once the plot kicks in, the film starts to entertain, handsomely. Director Saravanan also convinces us that he knows what he is doing and makes us understand that the jumps between genres are very much intentional. Even the small dose of romance between Senguttuvan and Chanakya (Nikki Galrani), which we get in the beginning and makes us apprehensive, gets a unique, comic twist(more)

A ghost caper that's fresh and entertaining

The film has some wonderful comic stretches. While some gags are unnecessarily stretched, you dont make a fuss because you walk out with a grin on your face. The heist and chase element, however, dont quite make an impact, almost falling flat. Nevertheless, these shortcomings are not something one needs to worry about because the film scores really high on the comedy and horror angles.(more)

The trail of this emerald artefact is engaging and thrilling

The film also has enough surprises and comedy that do justice to its multi-genre tag. The role played by Nikki Galrani is a surprise but it feels like the director did not explore this character to its full potential. Maragatha Naanayam is fun, entertaining, thrilling and will also crack you up. Its worthy of your money and time.(more)

Maragadha Naanayam is unlimited fun, if you don't expect logic

In the beginning, the director takes a little while to get to the story. But once he does that, the film travels at a uniform pace till the climax making the audience laugh out loud till the end. The film could work well if you understand that the directors objective is to give a light-hearted film and dont much question the logic. (more)

Aadhi's film is a refreshing take on horror-comedy

Maragatha Naanayam is the first half hour, which gives a totally different picture of a fun-filled film that follows. Every film takes its time to establish the crux, so the pace isn't an issue - unless it makes you less invested in the plot. Horror comedies in Tamil cinema remind us of the basic concept of reproduction. Among the 40 million swimmers, only one survives. And twins are a rarity.(more)
