Huma Qureshi to play Jwala Gutta in Azhar biopic

After Nargis Fakhri, Huma Qureshi has been roped in by the makers of Azhar for a key role. Emraan Azhmi plays the titular role of Azharuddin in the biopic film Azhar, which is based on the life of cricketing icon Mohammed Azharuddin.

Prachi Desai will be playing Azhar’s first wife while Nargis Fakhri will essay the role of Sangeetha Bijalani, his second wife.

Huma Qureshi will play the role of a third female protagonist, apparently based on the badminton player Jwala Gutta. Azharuddin was subsequently linked to shuttler Jwala Gutta, but both denied the reports.Nirmat Kaur was initially approached for this role, but she had opted out due to date issues.

The film will highlight the cricketer's much-talked about affair and marriage to actress Sangeeta Bijlani. Towards the end of his career, Azhar was accused of match-fixing, which will also be another major focus of the film. 'Azhar' is directed by Tony D’Souza. The film is slated to release on 13 May 2016.
