Finding Fanny Trailer Review - "Vintage Goa"

Finding Fanny is directed and written by Homi Adajania of 'Cocktail' fame and produced by Saif Ali Khan's Illuminati Films. Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia and Pankaj Kapur will feature in prominent roles. Finding Fanny is all about five Goans who set off on a road trip in search of an old postman's childhood love, Stefanie Fanny Fernandes. The film is set to hit the screens on September 12. The trailer of the film was released yesterday.

After a muddled Cocktail (2012), director Homi Adajania seems to have gone back to the zone where he all started. Finding Fanny has look and feel very similar to that of Adajania’s debut film Being Cyrus (2006) - minimal and realistic. This film, too, is majorly in English. Maybe that’s his comfort level? Or maybe that’s the film’s organic requirement? However, the film will be released also in Hindi.

Unlike the cliché way how Bollywood sees Goa as drunkards’ holiday destination, here it looks like we are into witnessing lives of actual people there woven in a fictional tale. And that captured through the lens of Anil Mehta makes the landscape look even more colorful and larger than life.

The trailer offers almost zero background music and surreal sound design, but the vintage style Hindi song adds to the tone of the film.

The humor of the film sounds dry, filled with serious puns and very sitcom-like, but all that should be enjoyable. What is commendable that even after having leads like Deepika Padukone and Arjun Kapoor, the director doesn’t seem to get over-ambitious making them do all starry things like sing and dance in beautiful locations. Supported by Naseerudin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia, Finding Fanny is surely a promising one.
