Rajinikanth's twitter entry yesterday has gone viral now, with velocity of followership picking up as it enters the second day. Within roughly 24 hours after the 1st tweet, Rajinikanth has amassed 2,15,000 followers at scorching pace. This has tumbled all the prior twitter opening day records set by leading Indian celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Sachin Tendulkar and Shah Rukh Khan. Even after normalizing for the twitter user growth and traffic during the last 3 years, Rajinikanth's record followership on twitter is a far outlier compared to the welcome received by other popular Indian celebrities on twitter.

Rajinikanth scaled the charts among world celebrities and in company with most well-known faces in the world. Rajinikanth is next only to Robert Downey Jr., Charlie Sheen, Pope Francis and slightly higher than Bill Gates and Tiger Woods in terms of the number of twitter followers on day one.

At this pace, Rajinikanth is expected to cross a Million followers within a week. The chatter is already on about the possibility of Rajinikanth exceeding Amitabh Bachchan who is the only Indian ranked in the top 100 twitteratis in the world. Senior Bachchan is the highest in India with a total of 8.6Million followers gained during the last 3 years.  As long as this is not a publicity stunt for Kochadaiiyan and if Rajinikanth reaches out to his fans with high-touch tweets, get ready for more such records to be tumbled.
