Despite a steady second weekend, Dhanush's Kara is heading towards a loss at the box office. With a budget reported to be close to Rs 100 crore, the film's domestic net collection stands at approximately Rs 33.73 crore after 11 days with gross collections just crossing the Rs 38 crore mark making a recovery increasingly difficult.
The film opened with Rs 6.20 crore on Day 1, saw a slight jump to Rs 6.95 crore on Day 2, but experienced a significant weekday dip thereafter, stabilising in the Rs 1 to 2 crore range during the second week. While the second weekend showed gradual improvement with Rs 0.96 crore on Friday, Rs 1.18 crore on Saturday, and Rs 1.33 crore on Sunday the numbers are far from what is needed to break even, especially with show count dropping from over 3,300 in the first week to under 1,900 by the second weekend.
The writing is on the wall. Unless an unexpected turnaround occurs, Kara is set to end its theatrical run as a loss venture for the makers.
