Kara - Isn't exactly spotless!

The emotional portions of Kara are a mixed bag. For the film to have worked a whole lot better, these portions ought to have been more impactful. They only work at a surface level, and this is surprising given the good performances.(more)

Kara Movie Review: Dhanush anchors a confident slow-burn

Kara doesn't reinvent anything, and it doesn't pretend to. Its skillful execution and strong performances, with a touch of forgivable clich.(more)

Kara Review: Dhanush's Performance Burns Bright, But The Story Flickers

Dhanush's film, directed by Vignesh Raja, doesn't realise its full potential. It rests on Dhanush's shoulders and is a compelling watch because of his brilliant performance.(more)

Kara Review | A Potent Heist Idea That Gets Muddled by Melodrama

Karasaami is not necessarily a heroic character, and Vignesh establishes that in the opening sequence itself. The desperation and angst of that character were performed neatly by Dhanush. KS Ravikumar was impressive as the father character of Kara. Karunas gets an extensive role in the movie as Kasi, and he was pretty good.(more)

Review: Dhanush's Kara - Familiar plot, Satisfactory execution

The heist episodes are designed superbly and are sure to keep us on the edge of our seats. Especially, the interval sequence is brilliantly executed and whistle-worthy. What makes these sequences more engaging is that the film initially portrays the protagonist's failed attempts and vulnerability rather than presenting him as an unstoppable force, making the character arc feel natural. The cat-and-mouse game between Dhanush and the cops is nicely written and delivered.(more)

'Kara' Review: Outdated Emotions, Weak Execution

Dhanush appears to still be operating within the same emotional space seen in Idli Kottu. The repeated focus on father sentiment, forced emotional beats, and prolonged funeral sequences feels overly familiar and, at times, exhausting.(more)

Kara Movie Review: A soaring heist drama pegged down by a few dramatic blotches

An assured Dhanush stands tall in this feisty heist drama that works for the longest time, till it decides to shift gears and take a rather safe route to conformity.(more)

'Kara' review: Dhanush's thriller, directed by Vignesh Raja, is technically ambitious, emotionally inert

Out of all actors, it's Suraj who gets the strongest character. Mamitha Baiju's casting also makes sense, although she is playing the kind of character we have seen many times before the wife who, despite being aware of her husband's true vocation, is trying to hold it all together and stand by him no matter what.(more)
