After years of waiting, Vikram's long-delayed Dhruva Natchathiram is finally set to see the light of day. Madras High Court Judge Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy has facilitated the film's release on or before June 15, in a significant legal development that brings the curtain down on one of Tamil cinema's most prolonged release sagas.
The court has ordered the opening of a dedicated bank account under the name 'Kondaduvom Entertainment', with a court-appointed lawyer to supervise all financial transactions. No payments — whether salary or profit share — can be made to any partner of Kondaduvom Entertainment without prior court permission. The escrow arrangement addresses the concerns raised by investors K Punniyamoorthy and K Premkumar, who had earlier agreed to allow the release provided revenues were properly routed and accounted for.
However, Gautham Vasudev Menon still needs to secure funds to clear pending dues before the release, and discussions with theatre owners and other stakeholders are yet to be held before a release date is finalised. The judge has also left room for an extension if the June 15 deadline cannot be met despite best efforts.
Dhruva Natchathiram began production in 2017, battled financial troubles, legal complications, and the COVID-19 pandemic, and wrapped only in 2023. A November 2023 release was pulled a day before it was due, and a February 2024 plan also fell through. The film exists in the same universe as Joshua: Imai Pol Kaakha, which released in March 2024.
Apart from Vikram, the film stars Vinayakan, Ritu Varma, Parthiban, Simran, and Radikaa Sarathkumar. Cinematography is by Manoj Paramahamsa, Jomon T John, Santhana Krishnan, and Ravichandran, with editing by Praveen Antony. The film is backed by Ondraga Entertainment in association with Oruoorileoru Film House.
