Jana Nayagan Targets June 4 - Censor Nod Awaited

PUBLISHED DATE | 30/Apr/2026

Vijay's much-delayed final film Jana Nayagan may finally be inching towards a release. According to latest reports, the Censor Board is expected to issue the film's release clearance certificate after the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Election results are announced on May 4.

The film's journey to screens has been nothing short of an ordeal. Originally planned for a Pongal release, Jana Nayagan has been stuck in censorship limbo for nearly four months — with political elements in the film cited as the cause for delay. Producer KVN Productions had filed a case against the Censor Board, alleging denial of clearance despite adhering to suggested cuts, before eventually withdrawing the case and agreeing to route the film through the revision committee.

Adding to the woes, the film was leaked online in its entirety, leading to arrests by law enforcement. Despite all this, the makers have continued to push for a theatrical release.

Now, an unexpected development has opened a promising release window. KVN Productions' own Toxic, starring Yash, has been pushed from its June 4 date to an unannounced date. Since both films sit under the same production banner, KVN Productions may strategically utilise the now-vacant June 4 slot for Jana Nayagan — a move that makes both creative and commercial sense for the banner.

Directed by H Vinoth, the film is a remake of Bhagavanth Kesari and features Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani. The technical crew includes Anirudh on music, Sathyan Sooryan on cinematography, Pradeep E Ragav as editor, and Anl Arasu handling action choreography.
