Pawan Kalyan reacts to Jana Nayagan censorship row: 'A rule is a rule'

Amid the ongoing censorship issues surrounding Jana Nayagan, Pawan Kalyan has commented on the controversy involving the Central Board of Film Certification.

Speaking to Thanthi TV, the Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister said the issue was not handled well at the censor board level but stressed that blaming the NDA government for the delay was not right. He cited his own film OG, which received an ‘A’ certificate from the CBFC despite his political position.

“My producers and director expected a ‘U/A’ certificate, but I told them a rule is a rule. With the level of violence in the film, how could we expect otherwise? Rules cannot be tailor-made for those who are part of the ruling government,” he said. He added that even if he tried to use his influence, the CBFC would make it clear that governance and film certification are separate.

Pawan Kalyan also said the makers of Jana Nayagan could have tried resolving the issue outside court. According to him, once the matter goes to court, the final outcome lies with the legal system.

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay in what is expected to be his final film before entering full-time politics. The cast also includes Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Pooja Hegde, and Narain.

The film has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander and is produced by KVN Productions along with Jagadish Palanisamy and Lohith NK. The film’s release remains uncertain as it awaits re-examination by the CBFC.
